Great Guam ShakeOut

Get Ready to ShakeOut!

Participate in the Great Guam ShakeOut Drill on October 15, 2020 at 10:15 AM and DROP, COVER and HOLD ON for at least 60 seconds.

Everyone can participate! Individuals, families schools, government agencies, businesses and other organizations are all invited to register.

Please maintain social distancing.

You are invited to join thousands of people who will “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” on October 15th at 10:15 a.m. in the 2020 Great Guam ShakeOut! More than 67 million people were registered in ShakeOut drills worldwide in 2019. Participating is a great way for your family or organization to become better prepared to survive and recover quickly from big earthquakes. Why is “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” important to practice? You may only have seconds to protect yourself in an earthquake before strong shaking knocks you down, or something falls on you. Practicing helps you be ready to react. Visit ShakeOut.org/dropcoverholdon to learn more.

 Plan Your Drill:

• Register at ShakeOut.org/guam/register to be counted as participating, get email updates, and more.

• Download a Drill Broadcast recording from ShakeOut.org/guam/broadcast.

• Have a “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” drill at 10:15 a.m. on October 15. You can also practice other aspects of your emergency plan.

The Great Guam ShakeOut

Once again, GCC will take part in the world’s largest earthquake drill, the Great ShakeOut. On Thursday, October 17, 2019, at exactly 10:17 AM, participants will practice the earthquake response procedure; Drop, Cover and Hold On from wherever they are. The drill will last for one minute.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) encourage all residents to increase earthquake preparedness and response by practicing how to protect themselves during an earthquake and how to ensure an earthquake disaster does not become a catastrophe. The ShakeOut participation provides the opportunity to evaluate emergency plans, increase awareness of earthquake safety, and improve resiliency within your community.

Guam Community College is a registered participant. To participate in this year’s ShakeOut, residents must register online at http://www.shakeout.org/guam/ or call (671) 475-9600. The ShakeOut website provides drill manuals, tips on earthquake safety and other resources for developing a disaster plan. Residents may register as an individual, family, school, business, or other groups and are encouraged to share photos of their ShakeOut experience on the Great Guam ShakeOut website.

Island residents will join close to 50 million ShakeOut participants from across the world from the U.S., Hawaii, British Columbia, CNMI, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, Southern Italy, and other various regions.
