GCC's Education Department invites you to attend an exciting and unique opportunity to learn more about the Earth Charter, which was developed by Indigenous, cultural, and religious community members from around the globe as an ethical and philosophical framework (the "why") that supports the practical, action-oriented agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (the "how"). Most importantly, the conference aims to inform attendees about what the Earth Charter is and how and why it could be incorporated into our educational systems.
Highlights of the conference include:
- Mirian Vilela, Earth Charter International Executive Director, (virtual) on the role of the Earth Charter in worldwide efforts toward sustainability and peace
- Grian Catunda, founder of The Earth Stories, which is a collection of myths, legends, fables, and folktales from cultures around the planet, illustrating the principles and values of the Earth Charter. He will be speaking about the importance of Indigenous stories and values in education (virtual).
- Sam Crowell (keynote speaker) is an educator, author, and current Chair of the Earth Charter International Council. He will speak on the role of education in advancing sustainability, peace, and justice.
- Presentations from educators who have incorporated the Earth Charter into their classrooms.
- An engaging activity led by GCC's Education Practicum students, who have been introducing the Earth Charter into their Practicum classrooms.
