Introduction to the Hotel Associate Youth Apprenticeship Program (HAYAP)
Hospitality and Tourism Programs
Håfa Adai!
The Hospitality and Tourism Management Program (HTMP) is a three-year high school course preparing students for careers in hospitality and tourism. Starting sophomore year, students learn the basic fundamentals of hospitality and customer service. In junior year, students gain real-world experience through apprenticeships and work placements while taking Tourism Planning and Development and Intro to MICE courses. In their final year as a senior, students will learn leadership skills through a one-year course on hospitality supervision. Completing the program with a "C" grade earns a GCC Certificate of Completion while achieving a "B" or better plus one Work Experience credit grants a Certificate of Mastery. Students can also earn certifications from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute for future success.
These courses articulate to an Associate of Science in International Hotel Management (IHM) at the Guam Community College through the Dual Credit Articulated Program of Study Agreement (DCAPs).
Our Hotel Associate Youth Apprenticeship Program (HAYAP) is available within the framework of the Hospitality and Tourism Management Program at all GDOE public high schools.
Participating Schools:
- Simon Sanchez High School
- Okkodo High School
- John F. Kennedy High School
- Tiyan High School

About HAYAP
The Hotel Associate Youth Apprenticeship Program (HAYAP) is a new opportunity for high school students on Guam who are 16 years of age and older. It's an opportunity for students to work in hotels while still in school. With this employer-driven program administered by the Guam Department of Labor, students in our Hospitality and Tourism Management Program (HTMP) can work, get paid, and earn their Certificate of Mastery and pursue an Associate of Science in International Hotel Management (IHM). In HAYAP, students get on-the-job training (OJT), mentorship and explore different careers in hospitality and tourism.
Your child will work with professionals and learn skills beyond the classroom. They'll balance their work with schoolwork and get support from mentors. HAYAP offers wage increases and tuition assistance for their post-secondary education.
Upon high school graduation, HAYAP students continue their apprenticeship at GCC, aiming for an A.S. in International Hotel Management (IHM). HAYAP is promoted through our HTMP program. Students need to apply for a job to join HAYAP. Students must complete the GCC Work Experience application, as part of HAYAP's process. Thank you for your interest in HAYAP.
