Nursing Assistant 2018 Fall Schedule
Lecture Days:    Mondays and Wednesdays  1801-2030
                           August 15, 2018 to October 31, 2018
Lab Days:           Mondays and Wednesdays 1601-2100
                            November 05, 2018 to December 05, 2018
Clinical Days:     Monday- Friday (time: TBA) GMHA Skilled Nurisng Unit
                            December 06, 201 to December 14, 2018
This course prepares students to function professionally and competently as Nursing Assistants under the supervision of the LPN, RN, or MD in such clinical areas as home health, community health, hospitals, clinics, private medical offices, and mental health.
Students who complete this course will be able to generate the knowledge and illustrate the skills required to pass the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Exam which leads to becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate competence will all skills required for certification by the Guam Board of Nurse Examiners.
2. Apply the Nursing Assistant principles and skills obtained in the classroom/lab to the clinical setting.
3. Demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of common elements for preparation of the NNAAP (National Nurse Aide Assessment Program) written and practical examination.

 Requirements for the Course

~Students must be a high school graduate from an accredited institution or equivalent, and must be 18 years or older.
~Completion of HL131 BLS for Healthcare Providers, or have a valid BLS certification card under the American Heart Association.
~ Be able to submit a police and court clearance clear of any felonies, misdemeanors, violations, charges, etc.
~ Be able to submit a drug screening that is clean and unquestionable
~ Have an updated immunization shot to include HepB shots and a current influenza shot, in addition to the shots required for registration.
~ Be able to submit  a current physical from primary physician. 
NOTE: Students will be advised by the instructor when to submit the clearances above, as they should be no older than 30 days prior to the start of clinical rotations.  
New or returning students who wish to register for NU 101 Nursing Assistant Course must complete the admissions process and obtain a health clearance from the GCC Health Center. All students must obtain an approval from the Nursing & Allied Health Department to register for this course. 
Note: This course may not be covered under the Federal Pell Grant or GI Bill. If you are on financial aid, please be sure to contact the financial aid office, or the GCC Business Office regarding payment and billing.

Congratulations to the seven GCC students who are completing the Certified Nurse Assistant course this semester, and who will be getting HIRED at the Skilled Nursing Unit once they pass their certification test. If you have taken care of an elderly or ill relative and enjoy helping people, this course is a stepping stone to a career in the health care field. CNAs are IN DEMAND.
