Graduates of the GCC Cosmetology Industry Certification program will be able to demonstrate and employ the skills needed to work in a variety of cosmetology-related occupations, such as esthetician, salon owner, nail specialist, hair color specialist, and makeup artist. They will be able to generate the knowledge and illustrate the skills required to pass the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology Practical Examination and the two-part Guam Board of Cosmetology exam. Graduates will also be able to apply effective interpersonal skills and practice the professional ethics needed to succeed in this profession.
Industry Certification Requirements
Upon completion of this program and passing the state cosmetology board exam, students may be able to find employment as a nail technician, cosmetologist, barber, esthetician, or make up artist.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate skills needed to work in a variety of cosmetology and related occupations to include (but are not limited to) the following:
1a. Shampoo, cut, color, and style hair.
1b. Clean, buff, trim, and apply artificial nails.
1c. Clean and tone skin, and properly remove/apply make-up and other skin products.
- Demonstrate content knowledge and skills as indicated in the National-Interstate Council (NIC) of State and Board of Cosmetology Practical Examination. The NIC includes the following six core domains: set up and client protection, thermal curling, hair cutting, chemical waving, hair lightening and color retouch. and relaxer application and retouch (https://nictesting.org/).
- Apply effective interpersonal skills and practice professional ethics needed to succeed in the cosmetology profession.
